about Scrambled Health
Behind the name
The name Scrambled Health has a humorous start, largely propelled by my own misdoings. As life can lead you down a winding path, I found myself working in a French restaurant under a Michelin star chef in London, England. As those who have worked in gourmet kitchens would know, part of the responsibilities of a chef de partie is preparing the staff meal. Being the pastry chef (a position I still don’t know how I manage to swindle) I was obliged to making breakfast.
My time in culinary school was short but sweet and initiated by the vegan lifestyle that I was living. Being so, the cuisine we were taught, and that I was interested in was largely that of a plant-based cuisine. The reality therefore was…
I had never scrambled an egg.
When my head chef inevitably requested that I make scrambled eggs for staff breakfast, I dove head first into the fiasco that would stay with me the remainder of my career and beyond. Naturally, I burnt the eggs and in the midst of trying to prepare my mise en place for lunch I served them anyway. I lost the respect of my head chef, and colleagues that day but I also gained a nickname. Scrambled Eggs.
What once was a reminder of my failure, and became a nickname for me amongst my family and friends I realized the importance of the signature. As I scramble through life, and the maze of mental and physical health, I decided to document the experience here behind the name that so fittingly branded my life.
This is Scrambled Health.
